The Big Island….

The Big Island…

In the Hawaiian language, a “W” in the middle of a word, is pronounced like a “V”.  Remember this next time you say Hawaii, make sure it comes out as “vai”.. Sounds much better.
A little Hawaiian 101 for you. No need to thank me, you are quite welcome.

I find I keep reminding myself that I am on an Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean,  It is taking some time to sink in. I walk to the Ocean each morning and sit along the cliffs.  Just me and the Pacific, and usually a phone conversation with Arizona.  I am told by the locals that the whales should be migrating past soon, I don’t want to miss them.
Sticker shock came when I went grocery shopping and spent $31.00 on 5 grocery items, I will either starve here, or be flying home early for a sandwich…  Thank the heavens, fruit is growing in the backyard…..

Drove the coast line for a few hours yesterday and found I was stopping so often I could have walked the trip faster.  Everything a stunningly beautiful.  And listening and watching the power of the Ocean is mesmerizing.

Pahoa is this quaint little town, full of hippies.
(
hippie [ˈhɪpɪ]n    a.  (esp during the 1960s) a person whose behaviour, dress, use of drugs, etc., implied a rejection of conventional values)
From what I have seen, this sounds accurate.
They help me remember that we need very little to survive, and be truly happy and content.  Everyone is friendly and extremely laid back.
The town is a couple blocks long and dotted with shops, it would be easy to drive right through and pay no attention, but each shop has a unique ambiance that you are glad you experienced.
The Museum Cafe is this delightful place chocked full of art and antiques.  They make a killer Papaya smoothie and banana bread, that is in a class of delicious all it’s own.  I finally found the town pool and think I will start swimming each morning.
Everything about this trip has screamed at me, This Is Where You Are Suppose To Be!
From my dear friend offering me her home, for an extended period of time..
To an old high school friend, telling me she lived here back in the 80’s and has been a wealth of information for me, concerning the town and area.  And let’s not forget, she hooked me up with her brother and his lovely wife, who live in Pahoa,  who in turn, offered me a car to use during my stay..

My youngest son is taking care of my home and is being a responsible person and will not burn it down while I am gone.  He just returned from a 5 month seasonal job in The Grand Tetons, and took a job with Victoria’s Secret.  Smart boy.  Local male hero… So, no worries about anything back home…right?

I will continue to take my pictures, meet the locals and wander The Island.
I know I am suppose to be here.
Why?  Well that will reveal itself in time.

Now does anyone have any suggestions on silencing a rooster that crows at 3AM , without the words roast, bake or saute being used?

Half way there

They called my name…..
And I am now in LA.
Looking forward to an evening with friends, and some laughs. Lots of laughs more than likely. Then my regular evening goodnight chat with Arizona and a good nights sleep.
Tomorrow at this time I will be settling in on The Big Island…

If you”re wondering what the photo is of, it’s a landmark at the Los Angeles Int’l Airport…..

Attempting to change the name of my blog….
My son suggested, “Pooping In Different Places”, I think it’s catchy….I’m going to sleep on it.

Just across the river, on the Philly side

Flying on passes (stand-by) to LA….. this was always fun, never knowing which route you’d take…when you’d get there.
Not feeling the fun anymore. The Charlotte/Philadelphia/Dallas route. to LA, does not sound adventurous right now… but beggars cannot be choosers, right?
I am officially old, and understand the cranky part.. When did this happen?

Couple snafus so far, my hotel in LA had to be switched, they sent me an e-mail letting me know the price quoted was wrong. (I get employee rates through my son) and jacked the price up $85…my Charlotte flt filled so I am currently sitting at gate C23 at the Philadelphia Int’l Airport. (Hi Jersey peeps!!!!!) So close but still so far away…
And to my MCO friends…if you see a really comfy grey sweater hanging around the airport….she’s mine. Hopefully whoever finds her, will enjoy her warmth as much as I did…~it’s always the favorite clothing you manage to lose, isn’t it?
Well, the LA flt looks like it might be full….the next flt is at 11 and has 21 seats, so I will eventually get there. Staying positive…….
Having dinner tonight with some LA friends..and really looking forward to the company. (And not still siting in Philadelphia….)
Fingers crossed… always waiting for that last seat.
~my airline friends understand this; Call my name, call my name…..

The clock is now ticking down…

I am 51 years old… the Mother of 4, the ex-wife of 2, a great friend to a few and a girlfriend (are we still called girlfriends at this age?  Lady friend is NOT an option) to a man that lives more miles away from me, than I like to think about.
I am a Veteran (Air Force),  an ex airline employee (23 years) yes seniority still means everything!  Throw in some time working for our Federal Gov’t, and you have the last 30 years or so of my life.  The details, I’m sure will periodically be covered in my ramblings.
I am outgoing, adventurous, a bit of a gypsy (really I’m a wannabe, makes me feel mysterious), a romantic and a work in progress.  I may seem strong and tough, but that is only the costume I wear,  if I let you close enough, you will find I am scared, unsure and need to feel safe,  just like everyone else.

I was thrown into an early medical retirement back in 05′, which changed my life, and left me with some spinal cord damage, but we won’t go into that now… you’ll get that story another day..
I now spend my time pretending to be a Photographer.  I am on the verge of  starving most of the time, but I am extremely happy and content.  I am doing what I love.

My grammar and punctuation are horrible.  So, if these things get under your skin,  I am giving you fair warning… I will drive you mad.  I do have a serious side, but it seldom rears it’s head, so hopefully you will understand my sense of humor.

Did I mention in 48 hours I am running off to live in Hawaii for a month or so?
My oldest feels I am going much to far away,  for too long.  My two younger (grown) children are telling me to have an Adventure.  I am currently a mix of nervous excitement and what the hell am I doing!?
A dear friends home on The Big Island was offered to me for an extended period of time,  I immediately said, Yes.  My thoughts are to photograph and journal my way around the Island, and work on my story telling.
I can think of no better place for me to be…

So, my adventure and journey begin Tuesday morning Oct 2nd with a stop in LA.
I hope you’ll stay for the ride.  Please be patient with my writing,  I hope to improve my command of the English language during this quest.

This is the start of the next 50 years of my life….
Feel free to live vicariously through my wanderings.
I will do my best to show you things and places, that fill your dreams at night.  And just maybe, push you to take off on your own quest..

Here we go……..
